About Puerto Madryn

This city is located northeast of the province of Chubut, in southern Argentina. Knowing the history of Puerto Madryn:

At the end of the 18th century, an expedition led by Juan de la Piedra discovered the San José Gulf and landed on Villarino beach. Baron Madryn was one of the influential men who assumed command of the Liverpool emigration trust, to act before the Argentine government in order to establish a Welsh colony in the province of Chubut. Hence, the port took the name of Madryn, in recognition of the work carried out by said emissary.

At the end of the 19th century, a mission departed from Buenos Aires to carry out a study of the best place to build a port and the area of a locality of Welsh immigrants was chosen, then called Punta Galense. Materials were brought from Buenos Aires to build the initial sheds that the workers would occupy and once the Port was operational.
