About Medellín

If you are looking for a place in Colombia to visit, Medellín is the best tourist destination. It enjoys the ideal temperature, approximately 19° all year round. With its fantastic views, as it is surrounded by mountains and forests, it is nicknamed the Mountain Capital.

A little of you history:

The Spaniard Francisco Herrera Campuzano founded a small indigenous town in 1616, which he called "San Lorenzo de Aburrá", then in 1675 the Queen consort Mariana of Austria founded what would be known as "Pueblo de Nuestra Señora del Candelero de Medellín".

When Colombia gained independence from Spanish rule, Medellín became the capital city of the Federal State of Antioquia. Art and Medellín: Museums:

All branches of Art are an important part of the social aspect of the city. Full of romance and natural beauty, it quickly became a cultural center for great plastic artists, writers, musicians and poets.

El Catillo Museum: it is impressive. Built in 1.30, it was acquired by a Colombian-German couple who since 1971 set themselves the goal of turning the place into a center for the conservation and promotion of art.

It is managed by a foundation that apart from the visit to the cultural center offers picnics, breakfasts and rental of the place for private events. Its hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm and on weekends from 10 am to 5 pm.

The Museum of Modern Art is the most important cultural center in the city presenting open-air events, concerts and temporary exhibitions. It is currently located in Ciudad del Río, a 10-minute walk from the center of Medellín. Office hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and weekends from 10 am to 5 pm.

The San Pedro Cemetery Museum, which is a historical cultural center par excellence, has guided tours with different orientations, such as History, Art or Society. Its opening hours are from Monday to Sunday from 7:30 am to 5 pm- its entrance is free and free.

Parque Explora is worth visiting, since it has interactive themes of great technological innovation and science. Exciting if you want to live adventures surrounded by science. Water Museum: Unmissable, with its permanent exhibitions in which they demonstrate the importance of the resource for the planet and with relevant information on how to take care of it. Its hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am to 60:30 pm.

Miguel Ángel Builes Ethnographic Museum, has five rooms in which you will discover the 60 languages spoken in Colombia in the different ethnic groups and exhibits more than 2,000 ethnographic pieces. Its hours of operation are from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5:30 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 pm.


Unmissable visits in Medellin:

With large shopping centers such as El Tesoro or Santafé, where absolutely everything is sold and there are restaurants of all kinds, although we recommend that you do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the typical dish of Medellín: the delicious tray paisa.
