Description

In the Guided visit to Fort Bulnes, you will learn about Chilean history as it represents a must to know the origin of the city of Punta Arenas. You will also get magnificent views of the Strait of Magellan through which thousands of sailors passed.

This activity begins with the pick-up at your hotel in Punta Arenas to go to the Parque del Estrecho de Magallanes, located 62 km south of this Chilean city. This was Chile's first settlement in Patagonia that suffered the harsh winter weather, forcing its inhabitants to move to what is now Punta Arenas. From the hand of a bilingual guide, you will know historical data and anecdotes and you will learn that the fort was founded in 1843 on the rocky hill of Santa Ana and then was destroyed leaving the place in a state of abandonment. For the centenary of its foundation, in 1943, it was reconstructed and reopened as a museum.

In addition, you will be able to visit the viewpoints and trails and a modern interpretative sample with the history of the Strait of Magellan. In the trails, it is possible to admire the flora and fauna and to find a great variety of birds. You can also visit the geographical center of Chile, a landmark that marks the center of the country, considering the Antarctic territory. Finally, we return to Punta Arenas to conclude the activity.

For this half-day tour we recommend that you bring warm and waterproof clothing, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, water, hat and gloves for the cold.
