Itinerary Machu Picchu Day from Ollantaytambo
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, to go by bus to the train station in Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, we will take the Train to the charming and striking town of Aguas Calientes. It will be a journey of approximately 1 hour and a half, where you can enjoy the beautiful green and snowy mountain scenery.
Upon arrival, we will take the bus that will connect you with the entrance to the citadel of Machu Picchu, where you will have time at the beginning to tour part of this important archeological site on your own.
- This place was declared a Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1981, is a spiritual Inca city whose construction was carried out under the rule of the Inca Pachacutec in the fifteenth century, causing the growth of the Inca empire which was called the Tahuantinsuyo.
Then, we will meet our bilingual guide at the entrance gate to begin the guided tour to the incredible Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will enjoy a two and a half hour tour of the Lost City of the Incas, learning about this millenary civilization, and admiring its beautiful nature.
- The citadel is formed by huge stones, which fit perfectly and create an amazing landscape. It is important to highlight that the construction made by the Incas was with the use of a unique engineering technique that allowed respecting and taking care of the environment.
Afterwards, you will have free time to take pictures, continue walking around this beautiful place, or if you wish, you can visit the Huayna Picchu mountain (optional), you can also return to the town of Aguas Calientes for lunch (optional). There are a variety of tasty and traditional lunch options in the area.
We will be back at the train station, to return to Ollantaytambo station. There, a tourist bus will take you to the city of Cusco, and drop you back at the hotel.
