Reviews and opinions about Buenos Aires’ most famous tango house vary hugely, so it’s only normal that any tourist traveling to Buenos Aires asks themselves if booking a tango show at Señor tango is the right thing for them.

Señor Tango

To start off, there’s no clear-cut answer to this question. It depends on the knowledge you have of tango and if you prefer going to popular, fashionable places or take the plunge and experience something new. That’s why we recommend you read our article about how to choose a Tango show in Buenos Aires, to give you an initial idea on what differentiates each tango house. We at Bsas4u regularly review tango shows (see our previous posts on Café de los AngelitosPiazzolla Tango and Madero Tango) but this time we thought we’d concentrate on Buenos Aires’ most popular tango house: Señor Tango.

Dining Experience

Let’s start from when the night begins: the transfer service offered by Senor tango is efficient and punctual. If you have booked a tango show with dinner, you will arrive at the venue around 8.30pm. Dinner is served; a three course meal, with three options for each course: meat, fish or chicken, with the additional choices for vegetarians or people with other diet restrictions. And enjoy complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks and water, to wash it all down.

The Senor Tango Show

Around 10.30pm, the tango show begins, and when two horses take centre stage at the very beginning, you realize this is a show like no other. After this impressive introduction, there’s a series of tango numbers, performed by impeccably choreographed dancers, beautifully accompanying the rhythm set out by the spectacular orchestra. Everything is reproduced on a huge screen, ensuring that even from afar you don’t miss out on any details.

The real show is offered by the owner of Senor Tango, Fernando Soler, and the real “Senor Tango” (Mister Tango). The Singer’s voice is impressive and reverberates throughout the venue. He sings a few tango classics on his own and starts to chat with the audience, with his famous charm that many tourists adore, which is a big part of the tango house’s success. After experiencing a tango show at Senor Tango, it’s clear that they offer much more than a tango show; it combines a spectacular light show, sounds and visual effects inspired by Hollywood and Broadway musicals. So, if you’re looking for a more authentic representation of tango culture, during your vacation in Buenos Aires, you might be better off booking a more traditional tango house.

Tips for Booking Señor Tango

Choose the dinner for a better location

The best seats in the house are reserved for those who have booked the VIP service or the tango show with dinner. If you only booked the show, you could be seated in the back of the venue, however with the circular stage and the huge screen, you get a great view from just about every angle.

Eat before you go for the only show service

If you prefer to book the tango show without dinner, make sure you eat before you leave for the show, as the tango show lasts up to 2 hours and you’ll get home to the hotel after midnight.

Get your orders in before the show

Once the show starts, the waiters stop circulating at it might be hard to get their attention. Ensure you get your orders in before the show starts.

A tip on tipping

Keep in mind that no tango house (as well as most restaurants in Buenos Aires) include service tax and that tipping is optional. Many tourists feel uncomfortable with the way the waiter approaches them at the end of the show, just keep in mind, if the service was good, and don’t hesitate to leave a generous tip.

Take advantage of the transfer service

Transfer is included in the price. The tango house lies a bit off Buenos Aires’ beaten tourist track, and not easy to get to by yourself. Take advantage of the service.
