The Rojo Tango show offers a unique but impeccable tango show. Housed inside a 5-star hotel in Puerto Madero, this is an excellent choice for those who want an upscale yet intimate tango experience.

Rojo Tango is performed inside the  5-star Faena Hotel. Located in the modern Puerto Madero, the Faena not only houses Rojo Tango Show, but offers perhaps the most luxurious accomodations in Buenos Aires.

Upon Your Arrival

Two greeters will beckon you to enter via the red carpet that leading up to the hotel’s entrance. From there, explore what the Faena Hotel offers in addition the tango show. While maintaining its elegance, eclectic decorations adorn certain spots that you’d least expect. In addition to the women’s boutique and dimly-lit lounge where you can enjoy a pre-show drink, you’ll find a white dining room with unicorn heads hanging on the walls, a giant king’s crown centerpiece in the middle of the pool, and swan faucets in the marble tiled bathrooms.

Then retreat to a dark room lit by red lights (hence the name Rojo Tango Show, meaning “red” in Spanish),  and accented romantic table settings, that make this nothing short of where you’ll catch the contagious energy that simply cannot be felt in an auditorium-style theater.  Even if you are in the back of the room, you will still be able to see the actors’ makeup-and you'll even be closer to the live band.

The Dining Experience

Like many, you will eat dinner before the tango show begins.  Choose between Malbec, Chardonnay or champagne as you peruse the 3-course menu, and the waitstaff is more than happy to answer any questions. They keep your wine glasses full and make sure your spirits are high throughout the Rojo Tangoshow. The bife de lomo (steak) is highly recommended, though the other main dish options of salmon or lamb ravioli were also tempting.  There is also a vegetarian pasta dish available upon request. The dessert consisted of 3 small portions of lemon meringue, white chocolate mousse and a rich chocolate tort.

Let the Rojo Tango Show Begin

Perhaps the best and most unique part of the show is the intimacy of the show and their use of the entire room as their stage. To the left of the stage is a bar that stretches to the entrance, on which the dancers perform.  Sitting about 4 feet from the bar, some even pushed their chairs in to make room for the dancers who often entered the main door and worked their way through the aisle towards the stage.

While many tango houses in Buenos Aires provide an ambiance akin to a large theater, the Rojo Tango show introduces you to a grandiose atmosphere by way of the notoriously mesmerizing hotel. But don’t think this carries over into the show. On the contrary, you will be treated to an equally formal, yet small setting where you can’t help but become infected with the liveliness that meanders throughout the room during the performance. Unlike many other tango houses, Rojo Tango allows you to take pictures during the show, albeit without flash.

Tango houses each carry their own flavor, and what you will book during your travels will depend on your preferences. With the many options, you may feel overwhelmed, but you can check out our list of tango shows in Buenos Aires, which will offer you a wide variety from the more intimate ones to the large, Broadway-style shows and everything in between. No matter which one you book, a tango dinner & show (and perhaps a lesson as well!) is a must when travelling here.
