5 Steps to Making the Perfect Caipirinha
The Caipirihna, meaning “little drink” in Portuguese, is Brazil’s national drink and is made using Cachaça, the country’s most common distilled alcoholic beverage, which the Brazilians get through a staggering 200 million litres of each year. Cachaça has become an integral part of Brazilian culture and now ranks alongside football, carnival and samba as Brazil’s most significant national icons. To go about making the perfect Caipirinha, you need the following ingredients:
- One good-sized lime
- 2 tbsps fine sugar
Making the perfect Caipirinha can be accomplished using these five basic steps:
- Cut the lime lengthwise into four wedges and place in a glass
- Pour two tablespoons of sugar over the lime wedges and mash with a muddler
- Fill the rest of the glass with ice and pour in two shots of cachaca
- Cover the glass with a shaker and shake for 5-10 seconds
- Garnish with a slice of lime and serve
