What to do after Carnival in Rio de Janeiro - Music and Art
Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival has come to an end, with Unidos da Tijuca crowned the 2012 Rio Samba School winner for their beautiful parade performance full of stunning artistic choreography and impressive, colorful costumes. However, Rio de Janeiro cultural events never stop, and during March many concerts and exhibitions will be taking place in Rio de Janeiro. If you are still in Rio after carnival or wish to travel to Rio de Janeiro post-Carnival, below are some options of interesting touristic activities happening in March. Don't think for a moment that there's nothing fun happening after Carnival in Rio de Janeiro!
The city after Carnival has prepared more fun for tourists visiting Rio de Janeiro. Many international artists will be performing in concerts around Rio: Morrissey, the ex-lead singer of the British band the Smiths, is playing in Rio on March 9. Others bands performing in Rio include the 60’s rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival on March 18, and musician Pink Floyd on March 29. The pop band Air Supply is also playing in Rio on March 20. It’s a great opportunity to see how much Brazilians love great concerts and enjoy having a lot of fun!
If you want to explore the Brazilian culture instead of international concerts and would prefer seeing local Brazilian bands in Rio de Janeiro, you can check out the Orquestra Criôla, a Brazilian orchestra that mixes Brazilian music styles with jazz. The Orquestra Criôla will be performing at Studio RJ on March 1 at 9:30 p.m. Another great concert to see is the Rio de Janeiro Carnival band called Empolga as 9 that will be playing famous Brazilian music at Studio RJ on March 2 at 10 p.m.
If you are looking for art and cultural events in Rio de Janeiro, there is an exhibition of the great Brazilian painter Tarsila do Amaral at Banco do Brasil Cultural Center taking place between Tuesday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. There is also an exposition of the Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani at Rio de Janeiro’s National Art Museum until April 15.
