Buenos Aires is a city famous for tango, architecture and wine, but did you know that it is also a family-friendly vacation destination? There are plenty of fun things to do with kids in Buenos Aires.

1. Play make-believe at the Museo de los Niños (Children's Museum)

Museo de los Niños is actually a miniature city that has been built on the entire upper floor of Buenos Aires’ Abasto Shopping centre, one of Buenos Aires' best shopping malls. Your kids can pretend to be bus drivers, TV presenters, doctors, cooks, builders and more, and there’s a variety of toys for them to play with. Getting there is easy: just hop on a taxi or take the Subte (subway) line B and get off at the station Carlos Gardel, where escalators will take you straight up to the shopping centre. The kids activities in the Children's Museum are a great way to keep the kids entertained while you pop off to do some shopping.

2. Get artistic at the Buenos Aires Polo Circo

Buenos Aires Polo Circo is a programme created by the city government to promote the circus arts. There are three permanent tents with regular shows, suitable for various ages. The shows are not only highly entertaining for kids, but are filled with incredible acrobats that are sure to impress parents as well.

3. Connect with the animals at Temaikén Biopark

Take your kids on an entertaining and educational wildlife and animal adventure to the Temaikén Biopark. The park is a foundation that was set up to protect specific animal and plant species and to educate the public about conservation. There's a huge range of kids activities within the park. Some of the main attractions include a huge aquarium, a typical Argentine farm with farmyard animals, interactive centres and sessions to see hippos and birds of prey up close. The easiest way to visit is with a guided tour to Temaikén Biopark.

4. Chase the thrill at Parque de la Costa (Coastal Park)

Situated in Tigre, Parque de la Costa is an amusement park with rides for the whole family, from carousels to roller coasters! During the summer, we recommend visiting on a weekday, when there are less people and entrance is cheaper. A new water park, Aquafan, has recently opened up next door, for some added fun on a hot summer's day. To get to Tigre, take the Mitre Train from Retiro station in Buenos Aires.

5. Interact with everything at the Museo Prohibido No Tocar

This Museo Participative de Ciencias in the Centro Cultural Recoleta is a fascinating interactive museum, ideal for curious kids. As the name (prohibited not to touch) suggests, the idea is to touch everything. The museum is also centrally located in Recoleta, close to the famous Recoleta Cemetery.

6. Update your history at the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales (Argentine Natural History Museum)

A little off the beaten tourist track, the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales is perfect for kids who love dinosaurs and all things prehistoric. If you visit the museum on the weekend, combine it with a trip to the nearby Parque Centenario. Getting there is easy; by taxi or walk roughly 5 blocks from the subway station Angel Gallardo, Line B.

7. Experience the Argentine football at La Bombonera Stadium

Older kids and football fanatics will enjoy a visit to the most famous football stadium in Buenos Aires: Boca Juniors' La Bombonera Stadium. Take a tour to the stadium of Boca Juniors and its museum, to live a bit of the legendary history of this clubs and see where some of Argentina's greatest football players have played.

8.  Chill out at the Bosques de Palermo (Palermo Forest)

It's not all concrete and skyscrapers in Buenos Aires. The neighbourhood of Palermo is home to a huge network of parks called the Bosques de Palermo. Here you can rent rollerblades, bikes and pedal boats on the large lake. Relax on a quiet patch of grass, or visit the beautiful El Rosedal (rose garden), Botanical Gardens or Japanese Gardens. 

9. Stare at the stars at the Planetarium

Located in the Bosques de Palermo, this impressive dome-shaped building has five floors and is made of a giant sphere, supported by three large arches.The Planetario has plenty to keep your kids entertained, such as interactive exhibitions, shows for kids and a number of events in the auditorium explaining various aspects of the cosmos.

10. Keep your kids occupied at the República de los Niños (Republic of Children)

República de los Niños makes for a perfect Buenos Aires family day out for travellers with a little more time during their vacation in Buenos Aires, wanting to discover more of the Province of Buenos Aires. The Republica de los Niños lies in the city of La Plata (about 55 km form the centre of Buenos Aires). We recommend putting aside a whole day to visit this park, as it will keep your kids entertained for hours! The theme park has a miniature city, including mini replicas of governmental buildings in Argentina where children can learn more about life in Argentina, a petting zoo and rides. To get there you can take the bus to La Plata, which leaves from Retiro’s bus terminal or take a train from Constitución train station.

11. Entertain your babies at the Teatro del Ángel

Buenos Aires has plenty of theatre shows geared towards children. Leading the pack is Teatro del Ángel, which focuses on projects appealing to young kids. As well as plays, they put on art events, cultural workshops, and providing teaching materials in rooms specially equipped for young children and their families.

12. Enjoy a delicious coffee at Casa Muamor
