Discover the exciting history behind Concha y Toro's wines

Concha y Toro Winery is one of the oldest and most recognized wineries in Chile. It was founded in 1883 by Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, who planted the first vines in the Maipo Valley, near Santiago, Chile. In the beginning, the winery was mainly dedicated to the production of wines for family and local consumption.

At that time, the Chilean wine industry was booming, but most wineries produced low-quality wines for local consumption. Concha y Toro decided to invest in technology and know-how to improve the quality of its wines and stand out from its competitors.

Over time, the quality of Concha y Toro's wines became known worldwide, which led the winery to expand and improve its technology and production processes. Today, Concha y Toro is one of the largest and most successful wineries in Latin America, with vineyards in several valleys in Chile and a presence in more than 140 countries.

Among Concha y Toro's most famous wines are Casillero del Diablo, Don Melchor, and Marques de Casa Concha, among others. There is a legend surrounding its most famous wine "Casillero del Diablo" where, according to Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, he spread the rumor that the devil lived in his cellar to prevent workers from stealing his best wines. This rumor became popular and led to the launch of the "Casillero del Diablo" brand, which became a worldwide success and one of Chile's most recognized wines.

The Concha y Toro wineries keep the secret of one of the best wines in the world El Casillero del Diablo!

The Pirque Viejo Vineyard is one of the jewels in the crown of the Concha y Toro winery. This vineyard is located in the Pirque region of the Maipo Valley and is one of the winery's oldest vineyards, with over 100 years of history.

The Pirque Viejo Vineyard is home to some of Concha y Toro's most valuable grape varieties, such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and Carmenere. The vineyard's location, on a hillside with ideal sun exposure, allows the grapes to ripen evenly and develop deep, complex flavors and aromas.

The winery has made significant investments in the Pirque Viejo Vineyard, including the renovation of the vines, the implementation of sustainable farming techniques, and the construction of a boutique winery in the heart of the vineyard.

The result is a range of high-quality wines, including some of Concha y Toro's best wines, that reflect the winery's passion and commitment to producing exceptional wines.

Concha y Toro's cellars are designed to maintain a constant and controlled temperature and humidity, which is essential for the maturation of high-quality wines. In these cellars, the wines are stored in French and American oak barrels for several years, allowing the flavors and aromas to develop and deepen.

In addition, Concha y Toro's cellars house some of the winery's most exclusive wines, such as Don Melchor, considered one of the best wines in Chile and the world. Don Melchor's production is extremely limited, and each bottle is numbered and carefully labeled by hand.
