Itinerary

Can you imagine being able to witness more than 70 eruptions of a steam jet emerging from the ground and forming wells of boiling water? The Tatio Geysers and the town of Machuca are some of the places where these incredible natural phenomena occur and you must include it in your travel itinerary through northern Chile.

During the Excursion to the Tatio geysers and Machuca in the Atacama Desert, you will get picked up at your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama very early in the morning and taken to the desert.

After 90 minutes of travel, you will reach the Tatio, the highest geyser field in the world, located at about 4,200 meters above sea level. You're wondering, this sounds great, but what is a geyser? A geyser is a special type of thermal source that throws a column of hot water and steam into the air, and this is precisely what you will see there in the Atacama desert.

During the morning you will observe large geothermal shapes, thanks to the low temperatures that occur at that time of day, which lead to the formation of large columns of steam. Accompanied by one of our specialized guides, you will walk for about 45 minutes until you reach a thermal pool where you can take a bath. Your tour will continue through a meadow with permanent humidity called the bofedal de Putana, where you can see different types of birds in front of the Colorado Volcano.

The tour ends in the village of Machuca, located at 4,000 meters above sea level, and whose houses are highland architecture very representative of the area. What are you waiting for? Book online this vibrant Excursion to the Tatio geysers and Machuca and discover the most incredible places in the driest desert in the world!
