A wonderful adventure that will take you to explore the most famous glacier of the Patagonian basin making an incredible walk to the very center of the Perito Moreno glacier. The main difference between the Big Ice Excursion on the Perito Moreno Glacier and the Mini-Trekking is that it is an excursion that is more physically demanding (3 hours walk) and it allows to go deeper into the glacier.
The Big Ice Excursion on the Perito Moreno Glacier starts very early in the morning with the optional transfer from El Calafate to Los Glaciares National Park, where you will find the Puerto Bajo de las Sombras and where you will have a 20 minute navigation that will take you to Lago Argentino. Here you start a hike with the mountain guides, the tour crosses the southern part of the glacier and after two hours you will reach a spectacular viewpoint, from where you can appreciate a view of the Perito Moreno Glacier that will take your breath away. You will have time for lunch.
The guides will help you put the crampons on your boots and give an orientation talk about how to use them correctly. And then the long-awaited trekking begins, with an exciting adventure discovering and exploring the stunning landscapes that this wonder of nature offers for 3 hours. You will explore rivers of ice, blue lakes, deep crevices, and amazing caverns that offer a dream-like landscape.
We will return to the same path of the moraine, sail to the Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, make a brief visit to the walkways in front of the glacier and you can enjoy a glass of whiskey with ice from the glacier!

- Transfer policy: For the transfer to the Perito Moreno Glacier (optional), passengers staying at the following hotels should meet at the office in the center of El Calafate, at the arranged time: Austral, Albergue Patagonia, Shilling, La Loma, Apart Chalten, Hotel Amado, Apart Libertador, Hospedaje Alejandra, Oregón, Camping Ovejero, Cabaña Santa Mónica.
- Special data request: After your payment is done, you will be requested to complete personal details for every passenger indispensable to confirm your booking: full name as it appears on your passport, passport number, date of birth, gender, nationality. Without this data, we cannot make the reservation or guarantee the availability of the tour.
- Cancellation policies at destination: If, at the discretion of the person in charge of providing the service, the client has not respected the requirements and physical capabilities required for the excursion, as a safety measure may deny the completion of the walk and will be considered no show.
- Extra language guide: The guides on the regular excursions are Spanish/English. In case of requesting a guide in another language, we can add them with an additional.
- Not included: Meals, drinks, and tickets to the National Park. These must be paid in cash at the place.
- Season alert: Please note that due to the extreme weather conditions in winter, this tour is not available from May to September. Please avoid selecting these dates on the calendar or contact our support team for further information.
