Itinerary Visit to the Pre Inca Pachacamac Temple from Lima

The Visit to the Pre Inca Pachamamac Temple is an ideal tour for those who want to learn about the culture, history and architecture of civilizations before the Inca Empire.
You will start your tour when we pick you up at your hotel in Lima. From there your first stop will be in the Bohemian District of Barranco, where you can enjoy its cultural galleries, cafes, and street art in perfect combination with the architecture of the Republican era.
You will continue the first part of this visit through the Main Square and the Bridge of Sighs, near the Bajada de los Baños, the road that leads to the city's beaches.

The history of Barraco

The Bohemian District of Barranco was formerly a fishermen's neighborhood, and an attractive seaside resort for Lima's upper-middle class, where they built ranches and European-style mansions.
In 1881, it was occupied by the Chilean army during the War of the Pacific, who looted and largely destroyed it. Among the most affected constructions was the Bridge of Sighs, which has been restored several times since then.

The Archaeological Sanctuary of Pachamamac

You cannot miss the opportunity to visit this place of interest near the city. Only 30 kilometers south of Lima, is located the Archaeological Sanctuary of Pachacamac. It was built in adobe and overlooks the ocean and the Lurin River Valley.
Pachacámac was a pilgrimage center for many of the pre-Inca cultures that populated ancient Peru. These pre-Inca civilizations date back to 5000 BC.
With the arrival of the Incas, the complex was gradually adapted to become an administrative center.
In this visit to the Pre Inca Pachamamac Temple, you will be able to see three important sectors:

  1. The administrative area, where you will see the Acllahuasi, the Palace of Tauri Chumpi, the Pilgrims Square, among others.
  2. The religious zone, where you will find several temples such as the Temple of the Sun and the Old Temple.
  3. The domestic area.

The Temple of the Sun and Moon

This temple was built by the Inca Empire when it reached the coast around 1470. It occupies the highest part of the complex, facing the sea. It is the largest temple of the entire Peruvian coast and the construction materials were typical of the time (adobe) and presents red paint.

After visiting these three important areas of the Pachamamac Temple, you will have time to visit the Pachamamac Site Museum. There you will be given more precise information and you will be able to see the remains that are preserved from that time.

The Pre Inca Pachacamac Temple Tour from Lima ends when we drop you off at your different hotels in the city.
