Itinerary Description

Pick-up and Travel to Chillihuani

We will start the day very early, with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 3:30 am. Aboard our shared transport, we will embark on a journey of approximately 3 and a half hours through wild landscapes, deserts, snow-capped peaks, and herds of alpacas. This journey will allow you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region before arriving at Chillihuani, the starting point of our hike.

Breakfast in Chillihuani

Upon arriving in Chillihuani, located at 4200 meters above sea level (13,900 feet), we will enjoy a hot breakfast that will prepare us for the exciting hike ahead. This breakfast will not only provide you with the necessary energy but will also help you acclimate to the altitude.

Hike to the 7 Colors Mountain

The hike to the 7 Colors Mountain will begin from Chillihuani and will be an impressive experience. During approximately 4 hours of ascent, you will enjoy spectacular views of the Andes, glacial peaks, red mountains, and rocky hills. Along the way, you will also see llamas and alpacas grazing in the valley, creating a typical and authentic scene of the Peruvian Andes.

Andean Fauna and Vicuñas

As we ascend, you will have the opportunity to observe the Andean fauna in its natural habitat. Vicuñas, considered the Andean camels, are one of the most notable species you can see. These animals, smaller than llamas and with the most expensive wool in the world, are a sight to behold.

Summit of the 7 Colors Mountain

Once we reach the summit of the 7 Colors Mountain, you will have enough time to relax and take photos of the impressive views that surround you. The surrounding mountains, of an intense red color, offer a spectacular contrast with the valleys and the Ausangate Glacier, the highest mountain in the Cusco region at almost 21,000 feet high.

Geological Information

While enjoying the view, our staff will provide you with information about the geological formation of these incredible mountains. You will learn how they were formed millions of years ago and how they acquired the distinctive rainbow colors that make them so famous.

Descent and Lunch

After enjoying the summit and taking some impressive photos (hopefully, you might even see some condors flying overhead), we will begin our descent. The hike back will be downhill and will take approximately 2 hours. At the end of the hike, our transport will take you to a local restaurant where you will enjoy a delicious typical meal of the region.

Return to Cusco

After lunch, we will start the journey back to Cusco in our transport, arriving at approximately 5 pm and where we will drop you off back at your hotel.

Appreciate the spectacular view of the colorful mountain range forming a rainbow mountain in Vinicunca!
