In the words of Billy Idol, it’s hot in the city! This summer, the city of Buenos Aires has experienced high temperatures reaching over 40°C and there is no sign of it letting up. Is the heat making you dream of cool breezes, sand and sea but you just don’t have a moment to escape? There is no need to look any further than your doorstep…you can go to the beach right here in Buenos Aires at Buenos Aires Playa! [caption id="attachment_5358" align="aligncenter" width="610"]
Buenos Aires has its own beach to enjoy this summer! / Source[/caption] From January to February the government of Buenos Aires re-opens their very own oasis, Buenos Aires Playa, in the middle of the city, for the third consecutive year running. As early as 10 in the morning until 8 at night from Tuesday to Sunday, you too can enjoy your summer without the expenses or hassle of joining the thousands of Argentinean’s who escape the city heat by taking a quick trip to one of the crowded beaches on the Atlantic Coast or by jumping boat to trendy Punta del Este in Uruguay. But where are these beaches? You can find Buenos Aires Playa at two tranquil locations on the fringe of the city; Parque de los Niños and Parque Roca. These areas have been transformed into zone of relaxation and fun, fit for all the family. Take the traditional route and enjoy these artificial beaches by simply pulling up a chair, opening an umbrella, digging your feet in to the sand and finally enjoying the hot sun by soaking up the rays whilst being cooled by the delightful river breezes from Rio La Plata. Or if you are feeling a bit more energetic, stretch your limbs, gather some friends (or make some new friends!) and battle it out on the volleyball and football pitches or boogie on down with the live dance and exercise classes on offer. And with the convenient outdoor showers, you never need to look any less perfect than a bronzed god/goddess after any exertive activity! Whether you take a picnic or find something to nibble at one of the kiosks, take your friends or only a book for company (or even your laptop, there is Wi-Fi!!!), Buenos Aires Playa is the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax and finally enjoy summer in Buenos Aires.
