Buenos Aires Insider Tips: Bar El Hipopotamo
It is friendship month in Argentina. To celebrate with you, every day we will share the Bsas4u team’s insider tips to our favourite places and attractions in Buenos Aires. Each of these places has a real porteña soul, and we always recommend them to our friends coming to visit Buenos Aires. These are the places we hold dear to our hearts, just for you, so take note!
Whose tips: Marina Bohn — Daytours4u Customer Support, from Novo Hamburgo, Brazil What she likes: Marina loves life, constantly discovering new things, reading a book, or taking walks through San Telmo, the neighbourhood where she lives. She loves cats, art and spending holidays with her family in a small town called Morro Reuter in the province where is from in Brazil. Marina is known in the team for having a great artistic and human sensibility.
Marina recommends: Bar El Hipopotamo
Right in front of Lezama Park you will find El Hipopotamo, one of the oldest bars in San Telmo. It is a very nice experience to enjoy a coffee in a place that tells the history of the neighbourhood and where philosophers, painters and thinkers used to share their thoughts. The Hipopotamo bar was founded in 1900, and its original name was "Estrella del Sur". This authentic bar has survived modernity and has kept its decor rather dated, with tables, chairs, counters and even wooden cards, transporting us back to the 50s.
