Itinerary Cusco South Valley Excursion

A few minutes from the city of Cusco is located the South Valley of Cusco. Our itinerary starts from the transfer from your hotel.

We will go by road until we reach our first stop located southeast of the city, 27 kilometers away. The first visit of the tour is the Tipon Archaeological Center.

The Templo de Agua Tipón

In Tipon we will discover its imposing "Templo del Agua" water temple made up of 12 terraces, an impressive area that will surprise you with its hydraulic engineering. This imposing water system is still in operation and continues to supply water to the crops.

  • The Tipon water temple is part of the Inca Trail Network, is located at 3,316 m.a.s.l. and has a total of 240 hectares.

Experience Pikillacta and learn about the Wari Culture

The next stop is 30 kilometers from the city of Cusco. The Pikillacta Archaeological Park is located near the town of Huacarpay. It was a pre-Inca urban center of great importance for the development of the Wari Culture. The Wari dominated the central area of the Andes between the VI and IX centuries.

The name of the Pikillacta Archaeological Park is of Quechua origin and means "small town". It has a total of 50 hectares and is located at 3,250 meters above sea level.

The Andean Village of Andahuaylillas

En route we will continue this excursion through the South Valley of Cusco heading to our last stop, the town of Andahuaylillas. In this Andean village we will visit the Church of San Pedro Apostle, also known as the "Sistine Chapel of America", which was built during the 16th century.

The amazing church of Andahuaylillas stands out for its combination of Renaissance and Baroque styles. It is a colonial temple that is worth visiting, in this church you will be able to contemplate the art of the Cusquenian School and the paintings of the local artist Luis de Riaño, as well as the important details that surround it under the decorative technique with gold leaf.

At the end of this interesting itinerary through the archaeological complexes of the Cusco South Valley, we will return to the city to take you back to your hotel.

  • Transfer policy: This tour does not include transfer from the hotel, the meeting point is usually at Plaza El Regocijo, one street away from the Plaza de Armas. Once the reservation is made we will confirm the meeting point.
