Excursion to Sierra Negra Volcano

This incredible adventure will take you to walk through one of the oldest places in Isabela, the Sierra Negra Volcano. This is considered one of the most important geological centers for its richness. For specialists the width of the crater determines its depth, the wider the crater the shallower the volcano. 

• The Sierra Negra volcano, located in Isabela, has a height of 1124 meters above sea level, is one of the most active volcanoes and is 535 thousand years old. The last time it erupted was in 2018. 

In this excursion we will walk 12 kilometers (approximately 3 hours) through a medium-difficulty trail on a gentle slope. This volcano stands out for having the second longest crater in the world, with an approximate diameter of 6 miles and 300 feet deep. Sierra Negra volcano is one of the most spectacular sights in Galapagos. 

We will continue to the Chico Volcano. Here you will be able to feel the hot earth as we approach, since it is active, the panoramic view from this place is wonderful! In the afternoon we returned to the hotel.
