Itinerary Full Day in Seymour North
This tour to the Seymour Islands begins early in the morning when your guide will pick you up at your hotel. We will head to the Itabaca Channel to board the boat that will take you to North Seymour, a spectacular place for swimming, snorkeling and hiking.
The Seymour Islands
The islands are approximately 1.9 square kilometers and have a maximum altitude of 28 meters. North Seymour is located near Baltra Island, this island is where you first arrive when leaving the Galapagos.
- North Seymour was formed by an uplift of the base of the lava rock beneath the ocean. It is separated from Baltra Island by a small channel and is better known as "North Seymour" and Baltra is also known as "South Seymour".
- Its geography is mainly flat and arid, with some vegetation including cactus, palo santo and salt bushes.
What you can see
On this 2-kilometer diameter circular trail, you will discover the interior of the island and the rocky coastal path. Here are the largest seabird colonies in the Galapagos Islands.
During this full day in North Seymour Islands you will see Palo Santo trees, colonies of blue-footed boobies performing their mating dance in the open areas of the island.
- The female piqueras bird is larger than the males and the males like to whistle. Sometimes the piqueras make their nest right on the tourist circuit, so you have to be a little careful not to step on them when you walk.
You can see the nests of many species of birds including gulls, frigate birds and yellow warblers all along the route. Fortunately, most birds in Galapagos are not afraid of humans. On the other side of the island and as the waves crash against the rocks, you will also appreciate the mischievous sea lions playing and surfing in the sea.
Finally, after a day of adventure on the North and South Seymour Islands, you will be taken back to Puerto Ayora, which is the meeting and return point for this excursion.
